Overseas NRI Electors: How to Register to Vote

Introduction

If you are an Indian citizen living overseas and have not acquired citizenship of any other country, you can register to vote in India. The Election Commission of India (ECI) offers online voter registration for Indian citizens who have attained the age of 18 on the qualifying date (1st of January).

New Registration for Overseas NRI Electors

To register as a new elector, you need to fill out Form 6A. This form is available on the official Voters Services portal. Once you have filled out the form, you can submit it to the nearest Indian embassy or consulate.

Modified Registration Forms

Please note that modified registration forms came into effect from 01/08/2022. Form 6 is now the Application Form for New Voters.

Replacement of EPIC for Existing Electors

If you are an existing elector and need to replace your EPIC (Elector's Photo Identity Card), you can apply in Form-8. This form can be submitted either offline through your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or online through the Voter Services portal.

Online Voter Registration

To register to vote online, you can visit the National Voters' Service Portal. You will need to provide your name, date of birth, and other personal details. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email.

You can download a PDF version of the Voter ID Form 6 by visiting the official Voters Services portal. It is available on the homepage of the website.
